I'm going to write ficlets for Christmas. Consider it a gift from me to you. I'm not going to put this in each of my journals. You know who I write so make your requests all on this post. 1. Alice slipped down the stairs, peeking around the edge of the doorway into the common room. She didn’t see anyone, so she proceeded toward the fire, keeping near the walls. She was just past the fireplace when a low laugh made her twirl.

“Going someplace, Alice?” Frank Longbottom asked, nodding his head at her.

“I need to get something to eat. I was busy studying during dinner and I didn’t realize how late it had gotten…” She was blushing a deep red, wondering if he was approving or scolding.

“Need company?” he asked, standing up. He was taller than she was, thinner too, and kind. She wasn’t about to deny herself a friend, even if she was painfully shy at nearly 13.

She nodded. “Yes please,” she said softly.

She liked that he put his hand on her lower back and that he peered around the corners first. And she liked, most of all, that he let her take the lead once they’d gotten to the kitchens.

She decided they’d be fast friends.
